Referrals

Preferred Alternative Healthcare Practioners

Referrals are an integral part of going to see your GP. You want him/her, should you need, to refer you to one of the best specialists in their field for your complaint.

This is the same in the Alternative Healthcare field and is often overlooked. It can be quite daunting if you want to find someone in a particular field and as some of these areas are unregulated, you may be hesitant to even look.

Of course, you want to know you are going to see someone who is experienced and at the top of their game. Over the years I have built up a Rolodex of alternative healthcare practitioners who are professional and at the top of their field.

Here is a list of partners I have personally worked with, trust, and would happily recommend:

Tony Monkham - Functional Medicine Doctor & Physiotherapist, The Natural Screening Centre, Harley St, London

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a systems biology-based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. Each symptom or differential diagnosis may be one of many contributing to an individual’s illness. Tony is highly regarded and also practices physiotherapy and acupuncture.

Angela - Reflexology, London.

Reflexology is a non-intrusive, natural, and holistic therapy based on applying pressure to reflex points on the feet and hands. These reflex points correspond to the organs, glands, systems, and functions of our body.

Using the thumb and fingers deep pressure is placed on these reflex points to assist with the breaking down of any energy blockages or deposits to free up these energy pathways within the body and open the channels for natural self-healing.

Tim Howard - Osteopathy, Cirencester & London

An osteopath aims to restore the normal function and stability of the joints to help the body heal itself. They use their hands to treat your body in a variety of ways, using a mixture of non-invasive gentle, and forceful techniques. Techniques are chosen based on the individual patient and the symptoms they have reported.

The major difference between an Osteopath and a Chiropractor is that while the Chiropractor is primarily focused on the spine, joints, and the muscles, an Osteopath is also concerned with the rest of the body

Jodi Cahill - Homeopath, London and Kent.

What does a Homeopath do?

Homeopathic practitioners are trained diagnosticians, recognised as primary contact practitioners. It should be noted that, whereas the vast majority of international Homeopathic schools offer skills-oriented Homeopathic training, South Africa where Jodi was trained offers professional training at a level required for the practicing of Homeopathy as a primary contact health profession in accordance with the scope of practice of such a profession.

Rob Ogilvie - Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture Practitioner, London.

How does Acupuncture work?

The tradition of Five Element acupuncture that Rob practices is based on the understanding of this cyclical flow of vital energy – also known as Qi. Each of the Five Elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water – represents a distinct quality of the Qi energy that is vital to the continual health and flow of nature. By unblocking with needles these areas of stagnant energy in the body, the Qi flows once again like a river.

Alasdair Macintosh - Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) aka Tapping. London.

EFT involves tapping on various points of the face and body combined with talk therapy. It is a similar energy healing approach to Reiki and Acupuncture but without the needles. We tap with our fingers on various pressure points/meridian lines on the face and body but we also say the words of whatever pain or negative emotion we are tapping out in order to clear it from the body and mind simultaneously.

Joe Searby - Alexander technique and Breath Work teacher, Burford, Oxford.

The Alexander Technique is unlikely to be anything like your preconceptions. It might best be described as “psychophysical re-education”…

  • psycho: of the mind

  • physical: of the body

  • re-education: a learning again of something forgotten

So, you re-learn how to integrate your entire mind/body into one cohesive whole. You can then apply this unified self to every activity and moment of life.

Over a hundred years ago Alexander was talking about the unity of the mind and body and how they are one and the same thing. The Alexander Technique is the skill of bringing your entire self to every moment of life.
